For anyone who is having difficulty losing weight, the educational step is the missing link.

 

For instance, if you were to read only about Liver Enhancement in my book The 7 Principles of Fat Burning and then expect to stick to that, it just wouldn’t work. This is what everyone else and nearly every diet book currently on the market is doing—only telling people what diet to follow. To be successful, you HAVE to educate yourself; you have to shift your way at looking at weight loss; you need to be given the correct information, and you have to get rid of the false information.

Let’s just take this very interesting word food, for example:

 

FOOD n. 1. that which is eaten to sustain life, provide energy, and promote the growth and repair of tissues; nourishment [Old English foda, “nourishment”]

 

You need to understand this definition fully—and correctly—and recognize that, per this definition, you may not have been consuming real food. It is important to differentiate between apparent (appearing to be) food and actual food. According to the definition, food MUST keep you living, it MUST give you energy and it MUST repair tissues. If we dig further by going in the opposite direction, we can ask the question “What elements, if missing in the diet, might cause illness and fatigue and destroy tissues?”

 

Experts will tell you that people need a certain balance of proteins, carbohydrates and fats in order to be healthy. However, the very basic elements required to fit this food definition are not just carbohydrates, proteins and fats but vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fatty acids and amino acids. Just because something is a protein doesn’t mean its amino acids are usable—as in pasteurized, denatured or cooked food. You could also add trace minerals, coenzymes and cofactors (those helper factors that make everything work). A coenzyme is a non-protein substance that usually contains a vitamin or mineral and is necessary for the activity of an enzyme. If these are missing in the diet, it can create a complete dysfunction of entire enzyme systems.

 

When we evaluate foods that contain ALL of the above five factors—vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fatty acids and amino acids—we will match the definition of actual food (things that sustain life). Realize that enzymes are destroyed by heat, roasting, pasteurization and refining. The quality amino acids come from raw proteins not cooked proteins. Most of your vitamins come from vegetables and fruits. Omega 6 and 3 fats need to be in a 2:1 ratio. The body requires four times as much potassium as sodium. And what foods contain all of these factors naturally? Vegetables.

 

Isolated soy protein, powdered protein shakes, genetically modified foods, antibiotics, endocrine disruptors, refined fats and sugars are all at the bottom of the food scale. If a person is taking a medication, then his or her diet needs to be even more perfect to compensate.
